Sivagiri Mutt
It is situated threekm east of the Janardhana temple, and is the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust. The ashram is devoted to Sree Narayana Guru (1855-1928). Guru’s followers, the Ezhavas, revere this mutt and gather here on occasions. Every afternoon, ‘sadhya’, or meals, is served at the mutt for Rs 10.
Narayana Guru’s doctrine was 'one caste, one religion, one god for humanity'. This has served as the guiding principle for many people in the lower castes, in Kerala and south India. It is believed that Guru underwent regular courses of indigenous Ayurvedic treatments, near the Papanasam Beach. The Sivagiri Gurusamathi, Sivagiri Sarada Mutt & Sivagiri Vaidika Madom are the main buildings here.
